Sainsbury's Car Insurance Report highlights the dangers of the School Run
A study from Sainsbury's Finance has shown that dangerous driving of parents during the stressful morning and afternoon school run, put children's lives in danger.
The report highlights that 1.6 million drivers involved in accidents in just five years, they take their children to school, men appear to be more likely to be at the wheel when a bump has occurred.
Sainsbury's Finance findings show that 13 percent of motorists admitted that the fear of being late for work and their children late for lessons was the reason behind the incidents.
Seven percent of school-run congestion motorists blame for a crash, while six percent of respondents said they were distracted by people in the car making them the concentration losses while driving. Only four percent of the school to train drivers said their erratic driving was due to fatigue at the beginning or end of the day.
The survey of more than 2,000 motorists also revealed that 15 percent of parents had driven their children to school or day care without being properly secured in their appropriate safety seats.
Men were more likely to travel on the school to perform without securing their young passengers with 18 percent of those compared to only 12 percent of women.
Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, Joanne Mallon said, "by pointing out the dangers of the school run, we hope more people will make their young passengers to buckle. The school run can be very stressful for drivers. Busy roads, loud kids in the backseat and the care of late for school or work can all lead to stress that affect people's driving. What is the most important of our findings is that many people are currently not ensuring their children are properly secured in the car. "
The most common type of accident was found to be with another car, with five percent of all drivers questioned admitting to be caught up in such collisions.
According to the survey that more accidents happen during the morning, with 41 percent of the bumps located on the first run of the school day compared with 34 percent in the afternoon. Women were more likely to be involved in an accident during the morning, no less than five percent of respondents to admit, have been involved a smash on both the morning and afternoon school runs.
Londoners function in most school run bumps, each with 15.2 percent of those involved from from the capital. They are closely followed by people from the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside at a rate of 12.5 percent according to research commissioned by Sainsbury's Car Insurance.
The least susceptible to accidents were drivers of the Midlands, which account for only 5 percent of the collisions with motorists from northwest England is responsible for 5.2 percent of the accidents and Scotland's debt of 6.7 percent.
